In the wake of the turmoil around and inside the Capitol, more and more Republican members of Congress are distancing themselves from President Trump. Now, for the first time, a Republican senator, Lisa Murkwoski, has openly called on Trump to resign.

The Anchorage Daily News reports that the 73-year-old senator is openly calling on the president to resign: “I want him out,” various media outlets quote the senator. The Alaska senator’s sign could lead a number of other senators to make a similar move. The politician, who has been a member of the Senate since 2002, enjoys a high standing in her party.

U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and numerous other Democratic lawmakers have already called for President Trump to either resign or face impeachment proceedings. Initial steps are to be initiated on Monday, according to press reports.
