From Monday: Arctic Century – Expedition to the Russian Arctic | Polarjournal
One of the regions in the Arctic most affected by climate change is the area of the Kara Sea and the island worlds of Franz Josef Land, Severnaya Zemlya and Novaya Zemlya. The Swiss-German-Russian “Arctic Century Expedition” wants to collect data here for four weeks. Map: Julia Hager

On August 5, 59 scientists on board a Russian research icebreaker set off from Murmansk for the Kara Sea. In the triangle between Franz-Jose-Land, Severnaya Zemlya and Novaya Zemlya, numerous projects will collect data on the effects of climate change on the Arctic Ocean, the land areas and the glaciers and ice caps within four weeks. Another large-scale, multidisciplinary project to increase our understanding of the complexities of climate change. This is Arctic Century Expedition. PolarJournal, in cooperation with the Swiss Polar Institute, will continuously report on this, publish blog entries in German and present some projects in more detail.

So join us, starting next Monday, here on PolarJournal!
