The representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District, Yuri Trutnev, noted that the shipyards have received a development impetus thanks to the recently adopted support mechanisms. It is necessary to build ships for cruises in the Far East at local shipyards, said Yuri Trutnev, in an interview with the television and radio company Vestiprim in Vladivostok.

“We want to set up a cruise company in the Far East and would like to order several cruise ships from local yards. This gives us the opportunity to call at the Kuril Islands, the Commander Islands and Wrangel Island. We have a lot of wonderful territories in the Far East, which until today are almost impossible to reach,” said Yuri Trutnev.

Trutnev wants to use it to revive the local shipyards and promote tourism. He called the situation unfair when only foreign ships operate in the Far East.

Improving the accessibility of the regions and developing domestic tourism is one of the tasks Vladimir Putin has set for the heads of the Far Eastern regions. In May 2020, Yuri Trutnev tasked federal ministries with working with governors to develop measures to help bring tourists to the Far East and support the local tourism industry in the wake of the pandemic.

In his opinion, the Far East should become accessible for travel from central regions. An airline was created for this purpose, but the existing number of aircraft is too small and many of the machines are already obsolete.

“We are planning an almost complete renewal of the vehicle fleet. Funds from the federal budget must also be allocated for this. We have recently discussed this issue with Prime Minister Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin. So far, no decision has been made on how to use this mechanism. There are two possibilities: Either to allocate the full amount of funds needed for the purchase or to finance the investment through leasing. In this case, the government will cover the leasing payments,” Yuri Trutnev added.

According to the deputy prime minister, by 2025 the Far Eastern airline is expected to serve twice as many passengers and several destinations than it does now.
