Lecture series “Arctic in the Gletschergarten Lucerne | Polarjournal

The MOSAiC expedition of 2019 – 2020 is by far one of the largest research expeditions ever conducted in the Arctic. More than 400 scientists were on board the German research icebreaker “Polarstern” for weeks and months, drifting with the currents of the Arctic Ocean hundreds of kilometers away, past the North Pole. In the process, they made important measurements under, on and above the pack ice, all the way into the atmosphere, gaining important and previously unknown data and insights.

Several researchers from Switzerland were also on board. One of them was Professor Dr. Julia Schmale from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. She will explain what she had experienced during her time in the Arctic polar night, what work she had carried out and what role these data play for Switzerland in an exciting and informative lecture at the Gletschergarten Luzern.
